10 Professional but comfy items you need for working from home

*******************************************************

Looking great when you work, really impacts how you feel and makes for a productive day, even if you work from home. Having a closet ready with ‘go-to’ outfit ideas sets you up for success. Below, I discuss the 10 closet staples that I recommend all women that work from home have in their wardrobe. Shop your closet to see what you already have and then consider supplementing with items below.

What to look for in clothing items for your work at home wardrobe

  1. Polished enough for Zoom, Teams or Online Work Meetings
  2. Comfortable and you like wearing them
  3. They can go from home to street if needed
  4. Colors and styles you like and will actually wear
  5. Pieces that can be mixed and matched
  6. Fabric choices that are comfortable yet retain their structure over time

The 10 items you need:

A Cardigan

I consider the cardigan the most important piece of a ‘work at home’ wardrobe. It is professional, yet more casual and comfortable than a blazer or jacket. Notice the cardigan below worn on top of a white shell top. The addition of a simple necklace makes for a ‘go-to’ work look.

Start with these colors – Black, tan, and white

Add additional favorite colors as you grow your wardrobe- I have maroons, violets, blues, greens.

A Shell, Shirt, or Blouse in a Neutral Color

The main purpose of a shell is to be worn under a cardigan or jacket. If you have a more formal occasion you can also pair with a blazer. If you prefer a long or short sleeve shirt or blouse that is fine too. However, what’s nice about a shell is that it doesn’t add extra bulk.

Start with these colors – Black, white or eggshell, and tan

Black shell V neck

A V neck is most flattering, but a round neck is fine also. I would add a cardigan on top. Check out the different colors

Black Lounge Pants or Joggers

You can also wear black pants or jeans.

Ododos joggers black with drawstring

Choose lounge pants that are comfortable yet stylish enough to wear to coffee or your kid’s school. Check out the different colors on these joggers.

A Dress

This is great because you only have to deal with 1 piece. Try different lengths and fabrics depending on the season.

A comfortable shift dress

Cozy enough for a day of reports yet stylish enough to take you to lunch. Check out the different colors

Simple Necklace

Keep a simple necklace on hand such as a gold or silver chain. You can add a simple but ‘not gawdy’ pendant if you like. See the necklace paired with the dress above, as well as some of the other photos.

V-neck T-Shirt

Pair a V-neck T-Shirt with a cardigan. It is okay to wear it alone with informal colleagues you may meet with frequently. Just make sure it still looks ironed and a bit polished. Embellish with simple jewelry to show that you made an effort.

Comfortable Loungewear

Choose loungewear that you can use if you need to jump on a call or run out to an errand. Make it comfy, but presentable if needed.

Long Sleeve Printed Blouse

A printed blouse gives you a classy, yet feminine and artistic touch. You can always add a cardigan or even a vest on top.

Stud Earrings

Stud earrings are elegant and add embellishment and class without distraction.

Pearl stud earrings

Here I show a pearl stud. You could use gold, silver, diamond, flower, etc. As long as it is a stud and not long and dangly creating a distraction. A mid-length hoop earring is fine too.

Floral Blouse

Short sleeve printed blouse

Choose a long or short sleeve printed blouse. Check out the different patterns.
